So I understand that Queen’s Leisure Centre may change its function from a swimming pool. I also understand that, because of structural problems with the roof, it might be unviable to simply change its function, and that it might have to be pulled down and rebuilt.
How about changing it to a Derby City Council resident contact centre? There could be a team answering calls and helping residents. There could also be a resident walk-in helpdesk, and an offline team that writes back to residents.
I also think it could be great in the meantime to set up a temporary pop-up call centre / resident helpdesk / offline team on Albion Street until something bigger is built.
One of my friends, who is a postman, has said that the post office distribution centre on Midland Road is now unused, as it’s been moved to Nottingham. This could be a great opportunity to change the building to an NHS 111 call centre. It's close to the train station and to the new property developments at Castleward and the Nightingale Quarter.
It would also be great to try and build or find room for another call centre for a utilities company.
I really think these ideas would help regenerate Derby.
