Derby's Urban Forest

Written by Rob:

I have to say, walking through the Market Place when nothing is there is slightly depressing. All that open space just looks so bland and sad.

So it’s great to hear that an urban forest has been installed for the summer. A poll was recently taken (presumably created by Derby City Council) by 400 young people who voted to call the urban forest Forest for the Future. (This is actually quite ironic considering the forest will only be there until the end of August.)

Anyway, this is good news, as the city could do with a bit more greenery.

For those of you wanting details on what urban forests are and what goes into creating and maintaining them, click here.

Hopefully, people will like the Forest for the Future. If they do, it will encourage the council to put more effort into making our city greener – something sorely needed.

I plan on popping into the city centre soon, so I will try and get some photos to share. I think I’ll also have a walk through the forest.
