Going on from Rob’s idea to have a derby version of Eurovision (which would be great for the dance clubs in Derby and Derbyshire), how about a Community Day held at somewhere like Derby Theatre over the summer holidays. There could be children and adult groups for dance, poetry and singing.
There could be English country dancing, Highland dancing, Welsh folk dance, as well as what other communities in Derby offer. Irish ceili dancing. Folk dancing from Poland and Hopack from Ukraine. Chinese dragon dance and lion dance. Indian classical dance and the fast-paced energetic dance from Pakistan.
As well as dancing, there could be songs and poetry performed in different languages for all to enjoy.
What do you think? This would be a great day for the people of Derby and a great addition to the Derby Theatre calendar.
